How Do Students/parents log a reading session?
Everything is done electronically on our website. No paper forms needed! Each student will have an individual student readathon dashboard that is password protected with child friendly passcode icons. The student dashboard has 3 reading timers: 15, 30 or 60 minutes. Simply select the amount of time you wish to read, type in the name of the book and start reading. At the end of the reading session, the timer will sound and the reading session will automatically be added to their “reading log”. Additionally, students can log past reading session (if they did not use the reading timer) by simply selecting the “Log your reading session“ icon, entering the name of the book and minutes read. For students that do not have internet options, teachers and the PTA can log students’ reading sessions through their admin platform.
How can teachers help promote the readathon?
Teachers can encourage participation by having daily classroom reading sessions. Our teachers’ classroom dashboard makes it fast and easy for them to log a class reading session. Simply enter the minutes read, select the students present and it will place a “Classroom Reading” entry in each students’ reading log. An individual student’s reading session can be logged as well for kids that do not have internet access. Teachers also have access to each students’ reading log where they can review and delete any inappropriate or erroneous entries.
How are donation prize points calculated?
Students earn 10 prize points for every donation dollar they raise. So, if a family or friend donates $10 they would accrue 100 prize points.
How are reading prize points accrued?
Students also earn prize points for reading! For every 30 minutes the student reads, the student earns 5 prize points. Every student that completes the reading challenge will earn a special prize regardless of their ability to get donations from family & friends.
